BFOP exhibition: Darkrise/Imitation Kingdom
DARKRISE/IMITATION KINGDOM is in the SHOP Arts Space from May 8th -19th.
Following on from 2010’s “Goram & Vincent”, this exhibit presents two distinct, but thematically linked pieces from Martin Harris & Danny Griffin
Designed by people ostensibly for people, the constructed landscape of our city centres has been described as alienating and soulless, even ugly.
By displaying these artificial spaces devoid of human presence, at dusk, Martin Harris’ series “Darkrise” explores how these spaces can be transformed by the artificial light and the gathering night, becoming more imposing and isolating, more beautiful and evocative.
Danny Griffin’s project “Imitation Kingdom” documents various tableaux of planted vegetation found throughout the Urban landscape, depicting greenhouses, roadside verges and animal enclosures.
Each one aims to evoke recollections of a lush tropical paradise, but instead represents our collective cultural image of one.
